Visenya was as much a warrior as Aegon himself, as comfortable in ringmail as in silk. She carried the Valyrian longsword Dark Sister, and was skilled in its use, having trained beside her brother since childhood.
“To Aegon. What a fortunate fellow. Two sisters, two wives, and three big dragons, what more could a man ask for?“

A GAME OF QUEENS:
↳ Queen Visenya Targaryen was the older of King Aegon I Targaryen’s sisters. She was also one of his two wives, the other being her sister Rhaenys. Aegon’s eldest sister was a passionate, temperamental woman. She was both stern and sensual, more voluptuous than her sister, more passionate, but with a dark and unforgiving side. Even those who loved her best found her stern, serious and unforgiving. She wielded the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister.

While her sister Rhaenys was the flirt, Visenya was the seductress.

Fancast Meme: five canon historical figures (4/5) ~Katheryn Winnick as Queen Visenya Targaryen
Visenya Targaryen was a queen consort of Westeros and the oldest sister and wife of Aegon the Conqueror. Trained in arms since childhood, she was as much a warrior as her brother, and was said to be as comfortable in ringmail as she was in silk. In battle, she wielded the Valyrian steel longsword Dark Sister and rode the dragon Vhagar. Though she possessed the silver-gold hair and purple eyes of Valyria, she was considered a harsh, austere beauty. Even those who loved her best found Visenya stern, serious, unforgiving, and some said she played with poisons and dabbled in dark sorceries.
She was a commander in the Conquest, participating in the initial conquering of what would become the Crownlands and flying Vhagar into battle alongside her siblings during the Field of Fire. Visenya was also charged with bringing the Vale to heel. After losing the Targaryen navy in the Battle of Gulltown, she eventually succeeded after riding Vhagar to the Eyrie directly and gaining the bloodless surrender from the boy king of the Vale and his regent mother. In 4 AC, she joined her siblings in attempting to subdue Dorne in the First Dornish War. Her sister Rhaenys died during the conflict, resulting in a two year period known as the Dragon’s Wroth where Visenya and Aegon burned each Dornish castle at least once in vengeance.
Visenya established the Kingsguard — an elite group of knights sworn to protect the king — after she and Aegon were attacked in the streets of King’s Landing by assasins hired by the Dornish. Her brother resisted the idea at first, claiming that his current guard was all he needed. She proved him wrong by slashing him across the face with Dark Sister before his men could respond, proving how slow they were. Visenya based the Kingsguard vows of holding no lands and taking no wives after those of the Nights Watch.
Though there was little warmth between Visenya and Aegon, who wed each other out of duty, she gave him one son, Maegor I, who grew to be a strong warrior, unlike Rhaenys’ son Aenys. After Aegon’s death, Aenys became king. Visenya clashed with her nephew in how to deal with the uprising of the Faith Militant. She believed they should answer them in fire and blood, but he refused. With all the turmoil of the uprising, Aenys fell ill and Visenyaeventually took over his care. Even though his health initially improved, learning that his children were under siege caused him to suffer a set back that killed him. When he died, Visenya crowned Maegor king, bypassing Aenys’ heir. After her son’s rule was established, she returned to Dragonstone where she died in 44 AC.

“like their dragons, the Targaryens answered to neither gods nor men.”
(via laurakinneyhowlett)

A century after the Doom of Valyria, and three hundred years
before the present day, the Targaryen host landed upon Westeros,
with Aegon the Conqueror, his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys, and
their dragons at its head. The dragons were named for the old
gods of Valyria—Balerion the Black Dread, whose teeth were long
as swords, and his sisters Meraxes and Vhagar.
